As statistics shows, there are over 20 million deaf people in China, 40 % of whom are below the age of seven. For many of them, the only hope of recovery is an artificial cochlea transplant to replace the functions of the inner ear. The optimum period for a successful transplant is between the ages of one and five, however the high cost of the medical operation is out of reach for the majority of these families.
